Summer retreat in Spain

Yoga and mindfulness retreat, all levels welcome

Explore your practice, let the mind settle and let the blue skies of the Spanish desert brighten your heart

22 – 29 June 2019 at Finca del Alamo

Join me in this tranquil palm fronded oasis set in 30 acres of citrus and olive groves amidst the dramatic, semi desert countryside with imposing mountains and dazzling sea. This is the perfect spot to support peace, relaxation and practice. Finca del Alamo is on the edge of the Cabo de Gato National Park and Almeria airport is only 30mins away.

Arrival is after 15:00 on Saturday 22nd June 2019. Check out is the morning of the following Saturday.

Each morning will start with some pranayama and a short sit before we move into an invigorating, creatively sequenced vinyasa flow practice taught with music. I’ll give modifications for all levels and we’ll include time to break down more challenging postures.

The late afternoon sessions will be slow, nurturing and calming yin and restorative sessions, closing with a longer seated meditation.

Sessions will include some philosophy or scientific background every day to inspire reflection or discussion.

The outdoor yoga space is shaded and overlooks the garden and pool. Mats and props are provided, but of course feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer.

The venue consists of the main house the ‘Finca’, which won awards in the 80s for its striking modernist design, and a group of converted traditional buildings, the cortijos, just a couple of hundred yards from the main house. It sits in the semi-desert landscape amid lush gardens, its architecture echoing ancient Mediterranean civilizations.

There are shared social and quiet spaces and two eco-pools, one at the house and one in the cortijo area.

Wifi is available.

Food & drink

All meals are vegetarian and buffet style, with plenty of choice using fresh local produce. There’s self serve breakfast (fruit) for those who need a bite to eat before practice, a yummy (and substantial) brunch, an afternoon snack and dinner every day apart from one evening when we’ll go out for a meal nearby together.

Alcohol won’t be served with the meals, as I’d like to encourage an inward focus and practice of self awareness. (However, what you do in your own time and space is of course up to you.)

Thank you so much for such an interesting, enjoyable, exhilarating yet peaceful weekend. I truly loved all of it! So much to take away from one weekend.

I really like your approach and find your calming energy radiating around the room just amazing. Your calming voice is very comforting, and yet you remain clear and composed, explaining each new move or next set of instructions so incredibly clearly.

I couldn't think of anything I would change about the retreat, it was truly a great weekend. Studio was perfect, nice floor, lighting, views. Food was delicious and plentiful.

Asana, breathing, history and philosophy were brilliantly themed through the lessons. It was obvious that everything had been thoroughly prepared but it all still came across with a gentle passion and enthusiasm.

Interesting topics which really made practical sense in combination with the yoga sessions. The yoga studio was really wonderful - the views, the peacefulness and the sunsets were beautiful.

I've already recommended it to many friends, and would definitely be up for a longer period next time. Sad to come home at the end of it.

I enjoyed the great yoga, lovely people and relaxed and friendly nature of it all. I felt I could really disconnect. Loved everything. Thank you for your wonderful energy - it was a great weekend.

I wanted to say what a wonderful time I had and how profoundly grateful I am to you for the lessons I have learnt through your teaching of yoga.

The people i was sharing with were wonderful and made me feel welcomed. The studio has a great view. I loved overlooking the green with animals.

Activities and excursions

There will be no afternoon session on Wednesday to allow you to explore the surrounding area.

Finca del Alamo is in a peaceful, isolated location, but within walking distance of the pretty traditional local village of Nijar, which can be seen across the valley at the foot of the spectacular mountain backdrop. You can also explore an extinct volcano or walk up to the mountain village of Huebro via the Ruta del Agua (around two hours each way with an opportunity for a refreshing swim on the way).

The venue is located on the edge of the Cabo de Gata National Park, one of the last unspoiled stretches of Spanish coastline. It’s an amazing landscape of perfect half-moon bays, hidden coves, bizarre volcanic rock formations, and spectacular flora and fauna inviting exploration.
