Summer retreat in Wales

Yoga and mindfulness retreat, all levels welcome

Let’s keep things close to home this year!

Explore your practice in the beautiful setting of the Cambrian mountains. Let the mind settle and the peace of nature brighten your heart.

2 – 9 July 2021 in the Cambrian mountains, Wales

In these uncertain times, let’s stay close to home, let go of any anxiety around travel, and enjoy the beauty of the countryside close to where we already are. Join me in a small group at this brand new venue (still in development as we speak – hence the lack of photos) located in the very heart of the Cambrian Mountain uplands, minutes from the Hafren Forest with numerous trails leading to the source of the River Severn.

The venue is run by the amazing people that made our stay at Finca del Alamo in 2019 such an unforgettable experience, and has all Covid health and safety measures in place. This is the perfect spot to unwind, relax, enjoy your practice, go on amazing walks, or dip into a wild pool for swimming on the nearby river.

Each morning will start with some breathing and a short sit – the studio holds 10 + me all socially distanced – before we move into an invigorating, creatively sequenced vinyasa flow practice taught with music. I’ll give modifications for all levels and we’ll include time to break down more challenging postures.

The afternoon sessions will be nurturing and calming slow flow, yin and restorative sessions, closing with a longer seated meditation. We might have one afternoon off to enjoy a longer walk – let’s see…

Sessions will include some philosophy or scientific background every day to inspire reflection or discussion.

Mats and props are provided, but of course you may want to bring your own mat.

There are ten newly refurbished bedrooms with private bathrooms (just across the corridor, almost like an ensuite). All rooms are single occupancy only, unless you bring someone from your ‘household’ or ‘bubble’ to share with.

Non-yogis who want to benefit from the amazing walks and activities in the surrounding area – not to mention excellent food and company – are welcome.  There’s space enough in the shared areas to keep a distance.

Food & drink

All meals are largely plant based, with plenty of choice. There’s self serve breakfast (fruit / nuts) for those who need a bite to eat before practice, a yummy (and substantial) brunch, an afternoon snack (sweet or savoury) and dinner every day.

Alcohol won’t be served with the meals, as I’d like to encourage an inward focus and practice of self awareness.

Thank you so much for such an interesting, enjoyable, exhilarating yet peaceful weekend. I truly loved all of it! So much to take away from one weekend.

I really like your approach and find your calming energy radiating around the room just amazing. Your calming voice is very comforting, and yet you remain clear and composed, explaining each new move or next set of instructions so incredibly clearly.

I couldn't think of anything I would change about the retreat, it was truly a great weekend. Studio was perfect, nice floor, lighting, views. Food was delicious and plentiful.

Asana, breathing, history and philosophy were brilliantly themed through the lessons. It was obvious that everything had been thoroughly prepared but it all still came across with a gentle passion and enthusiasm.

Interesting topics which really made practical sense in combination with the yoga sessions. The yoga studio was really wonderful - the views, the peacefulness and the sunsets were beautiful.

I've already recommended it to many friends, and would definitely be up for a longer period next time. Sad to come home at the end of it.

I enjoyed the great yoga, lovely people and relaxed and friendly nature of it all. I felt I could really disconnect. Loved everything. Thank you for your wonderful energy - it was a great weekend.

I wanted to say what a wonderful time I had and how profoundly grateful I am to you for the lessons I have learnt through your teaching of yoga.

The people i was sharing with were wonderful and made me feel welcomed. The studio has a great view. I loved overlooking the green with animals.

Getting there

Y Porthdy is situated by Penfford Las (meaning Staylittle), in the county of Montgomeryshire, Mid Wales. It can be reached from London in around 4 hours by road or train, and is 15 minutes from the town of Llanidloes and 20 minutes from the train station at Caersws. It’s 20 minutes to Machynlleth or 45 minutes to the sea and beaches at Ynyslas or Aberdovey (and I’d love to know how to pronounce all this!).

If it’s safe to travel by train at the time, ideally we will arrange a group transfer from the station. Worth checking: Apparently if you book train tickets in two stages from Euston to Birmingham New Street, and Birmingham to Caersws, you can save more than 50% on the cost of a ticket.

Check in is after 4pm, check out 11am.

Booking and payment

A £300 deposit will hold your space with the balance due 4 weeks before the retreat. There will be a maximum of 9 (yogi) participants, so spaces are very limited. If the retreat needs to be cancelled due to UK covid restrictions all payments will be refunded in full (or can be transferred to a future retreat).

Single room with private bathroom £1175pp

For non-yogi prices, please email me.

Payments can be made by bank transfer (my preferred option) or cash. Please read the Terms & Conditions before booking.

The sea and beaches are 45mins away.
