Integrating meditation into general yoga classes

19 June 2024, 9:30 – 16:30 UK time

Live on Zoom, with an hour’s break for lunch

Meditation is a core element of the yoga traditions, fundamental to the teachings of the Buddha, and also features in many other ancient wisdom traditions. Secular ‘mindfulness’ practices have also become exceedingly popular in recent years.

This workshop gives you practical tools and techniques to develop your knowledge of how to skillfully integrate meditation into general yoga or movement classes.

What you'll learn

We will start the workshop with a fully integrated yoga session including movement, breathwork, meditation and inquiry. This will provide a baseline we can then refer back to.

We’ll then explore:

  • An overview of different meditation approaches and techniques
  • How to prepare body and mind for meditation through postural practice and breath work
  • The effects of particular preparation practices on the nervous system
  • Different meditation postures, how to work with them, and when and why to choose them, including various seated postures, standing, walking and lying down
  • Key elements of structuring and teaching a guided meditation
  • An overview of cautions and obstacles when teaching meditation
  • The importance of language
  • Postures to release the body after meditation
  • An outline of the purpose and process of post-meditation inquiry

After the workshop, you will have a deeper understanding of how to set up and structure guided meditation as part of your movement classes.

How it works

The workshop will include:

  • Taught practises of movement, breathwork, and meditation
  • Group discussions and feedback
  • Lectures
  • Practical teaching exercises

Who it’s for

This workshop is aimed at any teachers and trainees of yoga or related modalities of movement (e.g. tai chi, qi gong, pilates, dance, etc.) with a foundational meditation practice who are looking to bring meditation into their classes skilfully.

Recordings, certification and accreditation

Recordings of the opening practice, talks and teacher led discussions will be available for replay for 21 days after the workshop. This workshop qualifies for 6 hours CPD with Yoga Alliance Professionals. You will receive a Yogacampus certificate of completion after the workshop.

Some voices from previous teacher training participants

Isabell and Graham are extremely knowledgeable and experienced teachers in their fields. I found them to be very patient, kind, caring, knowledgeable and very professional. They had sound understanding of working remotely and the complexities of zoom. I couldn't fault them or the course. It was a real pleasure to be taught by them. The best teachers ever with such knowledge and understanding of their subject yet could teach so that it was accessible to all.

I did not know what to expect when I signed up for the meditation teacher training but I am so glad I joined it. From the very beginning Graham and Isabell created a really safe space and clear framework for us to grow and learn. I loved the training weekends and thought that there was a great balance of practice, teaching and lectures/discussions on the cultural and historical background of meditation. I really liked the fact that the group was small and I loved the fact that we all taught each other - and learnt from each other. I could not recommend this course enough for anyone looking to deepen their practice, learn more about meditation and teach meditation one day.

This is a great course if you are new to meditation and you would like to begin or deepen your knowledge and practice, both for yoga students, new teachers and non yogis alike. The course is non dogmatic, so taking in consideration all different approaches and techniques. Graham and Isabell are very prepared, knowledgeable and nurturing teachers. I liked the balance between practice and lectures. I would highly recommend this course as a good foundation.

I loved how Isabell and Graham shared the teaching! It felt very smooth and not 'too much'. Perfect amount of theory and practical sections. They are super knowledgeable and I learnt a lot with them. They both teach in a very comprehensive way, so everyone can understand. I never felt uncomfortable in asking questions or share my thoughts, it was always a safe and non judgmental place.

I had an amazing experience with Yogacampus and Isabell and Graham! I am so grateful for the scholarship too, it wouldn't be possible for me to attend this course without that extra help. Thank you for the opportunity! I am leaving this course with so much positivity and awareness and I can't wait to share with others my knowledge and passion towards meditation.

I wish I could show you
When you are lonely or in darkness
The astonishing light
Of your own being
